In a letter to Prime Minister Theresa May, leading businesses and investors have urged the UK government to raise its ambition to tackle climate change and demonstrate leadership towards a zero-carbon economy.
The letter sent on 20 July, emphasised that the group wants to support May and her government in bringing forward emissions reductions plans that set out how the UK will deliver its targets under the Climate Change Act and Paris Agreement commitments. It explained clarity would help businesses and investors to keep investing in a more sustainable economy.
Other points made were calling for continued constructive work with the European Union to deliver global emissions reductions, and building on the UK’s “strong history” of international leadership on climate change with an “innovative and ambitious” approach to delivery at home defining a narrative for the UK to use in global discussions.
Signatories of the letter include The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group, IEMA, UK Green Building council, TechUK, Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change and Renewable UK.
