On 15th December Centrica confirmed that the Cygnus gas field had started production. Operated by ENGIE E&P UK with Centrica holding 48.75% interest, the field is on course to become the largest producing field in the UK North Sea by 2017. It is expected to contribute 5% of the UK’s total production at peak. Work on this project began in 2012.
Chris Cox, managing director of Centrica’s exploration & production business, said: “The Cygnus field is hugely important to the country’s energy supply, so we are proud that gas is now flowing from the field and into homes and businesses across the UK.”
