Changing staff behaviour can be effective in raising energy efficiency and could save UK businesses as much as £860mn, according to research from RWE npower.

The report says that, while the mode of delivering behavioural change will vary from company to company across different industrial sectors, it could include better use of office and industrial, introducing Knowledge Performance Indicators to track energy efficiency, greater use of performance management concerning energy use, and switching-off idle office and industrial equipment.

The report estimates the greatest scope for savings lies in wholesale and retail (£120mn); manufacturing (£64mn); administrative and support services (£69mn); and the professional, scientific and technical (£55mn).
