Achieving long-term emissions reductions will require “serious change” and it is crucial that the voice of businesses is heard “loud and clear”, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has argued.
In a statement following the passage of the Fifth Carbon Budget on 25 July, the CBI launched a project to form a business vision for a 2030 low-carbon economy.
CBI members have been urged to get involved, including by attending roundtables focused on specific sectors and cross-cutting priorities for business. They have also been asked to submit case studies or articles outlining ways in which businesses are leading the way in reducing emissions.
The CBI said: “With the government due to produce an emissions reduction plan outlining how it intends to meet the Fifth Carbon Budget, business has an excellent opportunity to make a valuable contribution.”
