Total energy use across M&S’s UK and Ireland stores, warehouses and offices is down 39% since 2006, the company has confirmed.
Released on 9 June, a report by the company also said that M&S remained the only major carbon neutral retailer in the world, achieved through a combination of emissions reductions, procuring renewable energy, and by purchasing and retiring high quality carbon offsets.
Mike Barry, director of sustainable business at M&S, said: “2015 was an important year for sustainable business […] Yet again we’ve achieved tough and stretching targets. The successful Paris Climate negotiations and the launch of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals have created a long-term direction of travel for the global economy and companies need a bold vision and comprehensive plan to make sure they are aligned with these important agreements.”
